Maryland’s Top 10 Nostalgic Cartoon Shows

Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

Marylanders all long for those simpler times when we would get up late, have breakfast and sit on the couch watching our favorite cartoons for hours on end. No homework to do and, more importantly, no responsibilities.

Taking a break from Maryland sports betting so we could flash back to our childhoods, BetMaryland.com looked into the favorite childhood cartoons of state residents.

Using Google Trends to compare the search terms for each cartoon between Feb. 28–March 6, 2024, we unearthed the top nostalgic cartoons. Here is what we watched with our favorite bowl of cereal:

According to our search, “SpongeBob SquarePants” was the fan-favorite, with a search interest score of 40. Every day we all wanted to drop on the deck and flop like a fish.

South Park, the animated cartoon with adult themes on Comedy Channel, came in a distant second with a search interest score of 20.

Certainly a surprise since it takes place in the fictional city of Hillwood, Washington, Hey Arnold! came in third with a search interest score of 18. The animated television series on Nickelodeon lasted eight season (1996-2004).

The Magic School Bus finished fourth at 15 and lasted from 1994-97. The series starred Lily Tomlin as the voice of Ms. Frizzle.
