After a sluggish opening half of the MLB regular season, Baltimore Orioles playoff chances are fairly remote. So it’s fair to assume that general manager Mike Elias could part ways with lots of MLB talent ahead of the July 31 trade deadline. One potential candidate to be dealt is eighth year veteran Ryan O’Hearn, the team’s lone representative for next week’s All-Star Game.
At BetMaryland.com, where you can find the best Maryland sportsbook promo codes, we’re thinking about where the 31-year DH might go next.
Team | Odds | Percent Chance |
Stay with Baltimore Orioles | +315 | 24.1% |
Seattle Mariners | +450 | 18.2% |
Boston Red Sox | +600 | 14.3% |
San Francisco Giants | +800 | 11.1% |
Texas Rangers | +800 | 11.1% |
San Diego Padres | +1500 | 6.3% |
Detroit Tigers | +1500 | 6.3% |
The Field | +1100 | 8.3% |
It seems “Orioles Magic” has run out in 2025. But the same cannot be said of the team’s everyday DH, with O’Hearn on pace to eclipse his career high 2.0 WAR total from last year (per Baseball-Reference.com). As of July 8, he has 11 home runs, 32 RBIs and an OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging) of .840. In a further advanced metric, he has an OPS+ of 139. Maryland MLB betting sites offer player props on individuals, including O’Hearn.
The former member of the Kansas City Royals has turned his career around since arriving in Charm City in 2023. O’Hearn went from minus-2.3 WAR (Wins Above Replacement) in 342 games with K.C. to 4.9 WAR in 331 games with the O’s. He has bashed two more home runs (40 vs. 38) and 20 more RBIs (151 vs. 131) with Baltimore compared to his time with the Royals.
With Baltimore facing down the abyss that comes along with on-field mediocrity, it might be time for Elias to see what he can get for O’Hearn’s services. The odds here are exclusive to BetMaryland.com and not available with Maryland sports betting operators.
We think the most likely scenario is that O’Hearn stays with the Orioles through the end of the 2025 season, which is why we rate that outcome at +315 odds, or a 24.1% implied probability.
We’re giving the 31-year-old +450 odds of going to the Seattle Mariners and +600 of shipping up to Boston to play for the AL East rival Red Sox.
Throw in the San Francisco Giants and Texas Rangers at +800 apiece and the Detroit Tigers and San Diego Padres at +1500 apiece and you have the full rundown on the trade board for O’Hearn. Elias and company look to make the moves needed to get Baltimore back in winning form in 2026.
That calculus might include parting ways with the team’s DH, who is having perhaps his best season. O’Hearn is on a one year, $8 million contract that runs out at year’s end, when he is eligible to become a unrestricted free agent. With Maryland sports betting apps giving long odds on the Orioles to make a turnaround and reach the MLB playoffs in 2025, now could be the time for a move.
