The Odds of Spotting a UFO in Maryland

In 2022 there have already been 43 UFO sightings in Maryland, according to the National UFO Reporting Center. Diving into this data, there have actually been 1,715 total reported sightings in Maryland since records began — more than four times as many as nearby Delaware.

But are there certain dates and times where you can increase your odds of spotting an unidentified flying object? And if so, what are they?

To work this out, we analyzed every UFO sighting reported to the NUFORC, breaking down the time and date of each sighting. We were then able to reveal when you have the best odds of seeing an alien in each city across Maryland.

While you might not be able to use a BetMGM Maryland bonus to place a bet on the odds of seeing a UFO, because the operator doesn't offer this bet, the topic is something that is certainly interesting. When Do You Have the Best Chance of Seeing a UFO in Maryland?

Of the 1,715 total UFO sightings in Maryland, they’re most common at 9 p.m. (91 sightings), followed by 8 p.m. (74), 11 p.m. (57), 9:30 p.m. (40), and 10:30 p.m. (38), while midnight (26) is the final time of day to have more than 25 recorded sightings.

By date, the most common days of the year for an alien sighting are July 4 and June 1, with a total of 22 reports, while June appears twice more in the top five, June 30 (16) and June 15 (15), behind Jan. 1 (17). Interestingly, Halloween doesn’t even rank among the 20 most common days for UFO sightings in Maryland, with just 6 on Oct. 31.

So, in short, you have the best odds of catching a glimpse of a UFO at 9 p.m. on June 1 or July 4! And just so you know what to look out for, the most commonly reported alien representations in Maryland are clear light (335) circles (193), and triangles (159).

When Do You Have the Best Chance of Seeing a UFO By City?

We’ve looked at your odds of spotting an alien in Maryland, but how about each of the state’s top cities?

Baltimore — 173 UFO Sightings

Baltimore has recorded by far the most UFO sightings of all cities in Maryland, 173, with your greatest odds of catching sight of alien life coming at 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. (9) on Aug. 3, June 30, or May 15 (4).

Meanwhile, 11 p.m. (6) is when you’ll have the next-best chance of seeing a UFO, followed by 9:30 p.m. (4) and 6:30 p.m. (5).

By date, the fourth- and fifth-likeliest days of the year to spot an alien are Nov. 12 (3) and Oct.15 (3).

Halloween, on the other hand, has never seen a sighting in Baltimore.

Columbia — 29 UFO Sightings

There have been 29 UFO sightings in Columbia, with your best chance of spotting an alien being 9 p.m. (4) on Sept. 21 (2). Then, 8:45 p.m. (2) is when you have the second-best odds of seeing a UFO in Columbia, followed by 11 p.m., 9:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (1).

Meanwhile, Sept. 1, March 11, Oct. 1, and Sept. 4 are the dates with the joint-second-most sightings (1) ahead of the spookiest night of the year: Halloween (0).

Germantown — 17 UFO Sightings

There have only been 17 reported UFO sightings in Germantown, so your odds of catching sight of alien life here are slim.

However, your chance is greatest if you head out at 7:30 p.m., 9 a.m., 5:45 a.m., 8 p.m., or 6:30 p.m. (1) on Oct. 1, Oct. 15, June 9, Dec. 8 or Jan. 29 (1).

Meanwhile, Halloween is among the worst dates to go alien spotting, with no UFO action reported on Oct. 31.

Silver Spring — 35 UFO Sightings

There have been 35 UFO sightings in Silver Spring, with your best odds of spotting alien life being June 29 (3) at 9:30 p.m. or 2 p.m. (2).

The next-likeliest dates are Sept. 18 (2) Nov. 9 (2), Dec. 2 (2), and Feb. 22 (1), while other top times include 7:30 p.m., 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. (1).

Finally, just like other cities across the state, Halloween is remarkably un-spooky when it comes to UFO sightings, with no Oct. 31 reports in Silver Spring.

Frederick — 40 UFO Sightings

Frederick has seen the second-most UFO sightings of all cities we’ve looked at, with 40 recorded reports of alien life.

For the best chance of seeing an alien here, head outside at 9 p.m. (4) on July 7, July 10, Jan. 5, July 22 or Sept. 16 (2).

Meanwhile, Halloween is a no-go, with zero sightings in Frederick on Oct. 31.

Failing that, you have the next-best odds of catching sight of extra-terrestrial life at 5:45 p.m. (3), 8 p.m. (2), 10:30 p.m. (2) or 10:15 p.m. (2).
