Most Popular Birth Month by State: Maryland

Fact Checked by Pat McLoone

For a state that dubs itself “America in Miniature,” it’s on-brand that Maryland’s birth month trends line up with the national figures, with the Old Line State joining 36 others in having the eighth month of the year as their most popular one for newborns.

BetMaryland.com took a break from covering Maryland sports betting to check the data and see which months have the most children born in each state.

Overall, the Old Line State had 103,869 births between 2007 and 2022 in August, which beat out July (102,722) and September (99,396) as the most popular month to have a baby in recent state history.

To get our data, BetMaryland.com – your source for Maryland sports betting apps - used the CDC’s Natality Information from 2007 to 2022 to find the most popular birth months of each state over that period.

Maryland Joins Many Others:  August No. 1

Over the 15-year period surveyed for this story, Maryland had the most births in a pair of summer months, in August and July, which was a common theme across the country during that period.

Of the 50 states in the U.S., the only ones that didn’t have August as their most popular birth month were: Hawaii (September), Wyoming (May and Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont and Washington (all July).

Nationally, it seems like the best time of year to have a kid is the final full month of summer, as August is the standard-bearer for the most births overall, both in Maryland and across America.
