Marylanders will have one more online sportsbook to choose from just in time for the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Betfred Sportsbook Maryland has become the eighth online sportsbook in the state after the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission on Thursday issued a mobile sports wagering license to the operator and its local partner, Frederick-based Long Shot’s, which has a physical, in-person sportsbook.
Successful Demonstration Completed
In getting approval for online operations, Betfred successfully completed a controlled demonstration of its Maryland sports betting mobile wagering platform Feb. 7.
During the controlled demonstration, customers were able to do actual wagering as the Maryland Lottery and Gaming staff observed and made sure Betfred’s procedures and operations were in compliance with state sports gambling regulations.
Maryland betting apps debuted with seven operators on Nov. 23. Also known as mobile wagering, the sportsbook apps allow customers to wager on sports on computers and mobile devices such as smart phones and smart pads. Customers must be within the state to participate.
Fans can also bet in-person at one of the state’s 10 retail sportsbooks.
