Maryland sportsbooks reported approximately $636 million in wagers in December 2025. The month produced more than $15.7 million in contributions to the state, making it the second-highest monthly total for state sports betting contributions.
The strong Maryland sports betting revenue came during a high-volume betting period tied to the football season.
Football Betting Drives December Revenue
December wagering activity was driven primarily by college football and NFL bets, including late-season playoff races.
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming agency reported $15,736,889 in total contributions from Maryland sports betting for the month. According to spokesman Seth Elkin, the breakdown included $11,849,429 directed to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund and $3,887,460 allocated to the state’s General Fund.
Maryland Education Funding Allocation
Maryland’s sports betting revenue structure directs a portion of proceeds to education through the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which supports education programs such as teacher salaries, pre-K education, and school infrastructure. Additional funding is allocated to the General Fund and the state’s Problem Gambling Fund.
Current contribution structure:
- Retail sportsbooks: 15% of taxable proceeds to the Blueprint Fund
- Mobile sportsbooks: 20% of taxable proceeds to the Blueprint Fund (as of June 2025)
Slight Handle Decrease Compared to 2024
December’s handle was nearly flat compared to December 2024, marking the first year-over-year decrease in handle in Maryland’s sports betting history.
Despite the flat wagering volume, Maryland betting apps reported a 12.7% hold rate, which contributed to higher overall revenue. December also represented the first month in the state’s sports betting timeline to record a year-over-year handle decline.
