Frederick-based and women-owned Long Shot’s OTB announced on Wednesday, Oct. 1, that they will re-enter the Maryland online sports betting landscape with PureWager - its first digital partner in over a year.
Previously, Long Shot's had been partnered with Betfred, but the company left the U.S. market last summer, shutting down its retail operation in June 2024 and a month later, its mobile arm.
Although no go-live date has been announced for the latest Maryland betting app to launch, it is expected to do so later this year or early 2026. PureWager is in the process of applying for an operator’s license in the state of Maryland.
Long Shot's, one of seven Class B licensees in the state, is currently partnered with Caesars Maryland for its retail operations, which opened in Dec. 2024. Caesars' online betting platform is tethered to Baltimore's Horseshoe Casino.
The state's betting law requires 5% of ownership in each Class B sportsbook to be held by a woman or a minority. Class B licenses are designated specifically for smaller facilities like Long Shot’s, the Riverboat on the Potomac, and the Rod ‘n Reel.
Long Shot's OTB is located in the Frederick Event Center with more than 80 TV screens and the in-person sportsbook includes a 90-foot-wide fiber optic video wall.
Although PureWager is not yet live in any U.S. betting market, it secured an exclusive online gaming license with the Odawa Indian Tribe in Michigan, enabling a sportsbook launch later this year. The company is also targeting four additional states (not announced yet) for entry in Q2 2026, emphasizing tribal and regulated markets through partnerships like those with BoscaSports and SCCG Management.
